This October half term Earls Barton Music will be running their first music workshops for children and young people! Led by experienced musicians who regularly perform or direct the ‘senior division’ of Earls Barton Music, this two-day course will allow participants to improve their existing skills or even learn some new ones. Between us we hope to be able to cater for established musicians and absolute beginners.
As our activities support ‘Arts Award’, participation in these workshops could help your child gain their award.
When and Where?
The workshops will take place at the Methodist Chapel in Earls Barton and run from 9:30am – 3:45pm on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th of October. There will also be a concert at 6:30pm on the Friday evening so we can show off what we have learnt; this will also include a few numbers from our adult choir.
How Much?
The cost for each day will be £9 per participant – an overall cost of £18 for both days. This fee covers the cost of booking the rooms we need – all our staff are volunteers. We will provide drinks and biscuits but everyone will need to bring their own lunch.
What have we got planned?
Over the two days we will learn some music altogether but we would also like every participant to be part of a specialist group too. They can choose from:
Singing for Everyone!
Members of this group will learn to perform a number of songs in harmony and should leave on Friday evening feeling really confident about singing in a group. Everyone will learn how to listen really carefully to how sounds fit together and we really hope that some of them will go away able to add your own harmonies when them sing along to the radio! More experienced singers might also like the opportunity to sing on their own or in a small group.
Percussion!
This group will use a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments to create amazing soundscapes and learn some familiar tunes. This will really suit your child if they love the range of sounds that can be created using percussion instruments or if they’re one of those people that just cant help tapping out a rhythm wherever they are!
Bandestra!
This could be an orchestra – it could be a wind or brass band, it will depend on what instruments the students bring along! Whatever your child plays, there will be a part for your child at their level. Whether an experienced player or a relative beginner, they will learn a lot about playing in an ensemble whilst learning some great arrangements of recent hits!
Guitars/Basses/Keyboards!
Members of this group will learn a lot from our experienced leaders. From tuning their instrument accurately, listening to others, playing melodies or learning new chords. We hope that these players will not only play as an ensemble themselves, but also accompany some of our singers! Keyboard and piano players won’t be left out – confident players may be able to lead an ensemble whilst others might be happier working within the group.
Who is this all aimed at?
Well, we think that this would be most suitable for children and young people that are in school years 5 to 8. However, if you think these workshops might suit your child and they fall outside the age range, please still apply and we will put you on our waiting list.
